This is the second joint world conference by the three leading global organisations in the social area. They were all founded in Paris in 1928 and enjoy consultative status in the United Nations.

During the last decade the cooperation increased. Among other things, a global movement named The Agenda was formed, with the objective of addressing the major challenges of our societies. This work was launched at the first joint conference, Social Work and Social Development: The Agenda, held in Hong Kong in 2010.

International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW) organizes schools of social work, other tertiary level educational programmes, and educators. Among other things, IASSW strives to raise the quality of social work education and to facilitate international exchange opportunities.

International Council on Social Welfare (ICSW) works for a better welfare, social justice and development. ICSW is a social-political umbrella organisation representing, among others, global organisations, national authorities and tens of thousands community groups.

International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) strives to promote social work as a profession through international co-operation, supports the founding of labour unions and professional associations for social workers, and promote the participation of social workers in policymaking. The federation represents indirectly more than half of million members in 80 countries.
